Reading a loop diagram: a field guide

Loop diagrams look dense until you know the conventions. A quick tour of the title block, signal path, and annotations on a generated sheet.
Start at the title block
The title block carries the project, drawing number, revision, and the loop tag. It is where you confirm you are looking at the right loop and the right revision before anything else.
Follow the signal path
A loop diagram shows the complete instrument loop: field device to junction box, JB to marshalling cabinet, cabinet to the controller card. Generated sheets annotate each leg with the cable ID, terminal numbers, and card/channel references from your project data.
Signal type, range, units, and power source are printed next to the loop so the reader never has to guess.
Use sheets and the drawing index
A loop with many signals spans multiple sheets. Every sheet repeats the tag in the title block and the drawing index lists every drawing in the package, so a full package is navigable end to end.
